This was the most amazing, creative, inspiring, challenging art project I've ever worked on. I am so delighted by what we've made.
Kirsten and Travis of Elk & Boar are the stars. They wrote and recorded this passionate song, and were so kind about embracing my crazy ideas for a video: a tragic tale of forlorn lovers. I had seen another video they made with another dear friend Dee Jones (who I love working with) and found the style of shooting and production so inspiring. I came to them with some ideas, we grew the ideas together, things changed, the story evolved. We laughed, we cried. This is what we made. I hope you enjoy it.

Here are some stills of the costumes and scenes created. Dee worked tirelessly on Kirsten's dresses and I created some hats and threw in some accessories. Kirsten's 100 year old house was transported back in time - we even moved a piano. Travis just happened to have an awesome wardrobe to begin with - all we did was add a top hat and some spice (he has plenty of spice to begin with.)

Kirsten worked tirelessly on the editing process. She has a gift for piecing together the million photos we shot into a story. An all around talented artist, she is!
A big thanks too to Holly Holman, an AMAZING makeup artist friend who was so sweet and generous with her time and energy on this shoot, even though she was sick AND moving that weekend!
I thought I'd share some photos of the hats I created for a recent photo shoot with Elk & Boar and Open Door Photography (more on that soon.) It was so fun to create these pieces that sent our characters back in time. I'm finding myself enjoying hat making more and more! Such a fantastic creative outlet - I only wish more ladies were wearing hats these days and 'round these parts...
Might even try a few of the mini hats for brides. Wouldn't they be cute covered in a luscious cream, white or ivory raw silk with some flowers and adornments to match?

The photo shoot was so fun. It brings me so much joy to pull fabulous people and fabulous handmade products together in a gorgeous location and make something so magical. Lots of laughter and silliness accompanied our hard work. The icing on the cake!
So this isn't exactly a sneak peek, but here are some highlights from our day!
He introduced himself as we were settling into the mossy location. Our model Bailey, immediately chased him down under the brush and "invited" him into the shoot. Mr. Frog settled into the bouquet quite happily (he was quite insistent on staying until I gently shook him free!
Travis
Was the "groom" for the shoot, and eventually went from groom to Borat-esque Eastern European accessory.
He kept us all in stitches most of the day.

Resembling a certain part of the anatomy had never crossed my mind. Seriously! But we put it down and took a few photos, and suddenly we were worried it might seem mildly provocative...

I'm so thrilled about this. I love e-zines. Especially free zines! Blogs are also nice, don't get me wrong, but sometimes you just want to get straight to the beautiful pictures. Or you want a DIY craft project to try out, but don't want to have to scroll and scroll and SCROLL to get through the 45 steps and demonstration photos. That's the beauty of the zine. It's like a condensed magazine - full of gorgeous photos, tips, an article or two, a few relevant ads (nothing too crazy!) and the DIY's are tastefully edited for maximum user-friendliness. You can even "flip" through it like a magazine! So satisfying.
So I'm working on an Indie DIY Wedding e-zine. In general, it's for all the artsy craftsy type brides who love handmade, want unique elements in their wedding rather than just what's "traditional" (although some traditions are still great.) These are brides who don't mind a little elbow grease to make their weddings special, but appreciate the time, energy and effort of the handmade craft, and seek out vendors who offer something a little different for those extra special items. If this sounds like you, I know you'll appreciate what's in store!
I've pulled together some AMAZING elements that I'm so excited to share with you. Today is just a sneak peek! The zine will be out in May and will be chock full of zine-y goodness.
In addition to product features and DIY wedding projects, I'm working with two wonderful photographers on two totally unique and FUN wedding inspiration shoots!
The other is a lovely lady named Dee Jones from Open Door Photography. I met Dee through our mutual friend Kirsten, who is a very talented singer/songwriter, (and who is playing a SXSW show tonight with her magical band Elk & Boar!!!)
Kirsten borrowed a couple sample pieces for an Elk & Boar photo shoot with Dee. Together with Kirsten's bandmate Travis, they made this dreamy music video for their song "Room To Start" (Dee's photos, Elk & Boar music, Kirsten's stop animation handiwork!)
I fell in love with Dee's aesthetic. I immediately emailed her and told her I wanted to work with her. Much to my delight, she said yes! So here we are, getting ready for another dreamy photo shoot, this time with brides in mind, in a couple weeks. I'm excited beyond words.
