At the Vintage Wedding Fair, I will have samples of all my custom made-to-order bridal fascinators, veils, corsages and boutonnieres (you can place an order right then and there and they will take 3-4 weeks to deliver right to your door), some ready made veils and fascinators for sale to take home that day, as well as my new Do It Yourself Birdcage Veil kits in ivory and white! There will be an amazing selection of local wedding vendors, complimentary champagne, and the first 25 guests receive goodie bags - all for just five bucks!
The Artisan Sale is a free event hosted at Brassfield's Salon, and will feature some of my more casual designs - flower and feather fascinators and pins with vintage button and jewelry details, headbands and new DIY fascinator kits. There are loads of talented local artists and crafters selling all kinds of goodies, so don't miss it. Come say hi to Bailey, my cutest ever (and first ever!) Deeds & Petunia representitive!
There are so many exciting things I can't wait to blog about and share with you. Photo shoots, new goodies, new ideas... But today I want to share a little bit about Elk & Boar, a local Tacoma band chock full of talent and heart. These two have been incredibly supportive of my creative endeavors and are generally wonderful people and I am just about their biggest fan, because not only are they wonderful people but they are outrageously talented and I love the beautiful music they create.
Better known as Kirsten Wenlock and Travis Barker, these two talented folks have been divinely paired to create. When I first heard/saw Elk & Boar, I was struck by how different they sounded than everyone else in the local music scene - soulful, unique, unabashed. Two seasoned musicians, with voices like yin and yang (or like two great tastes that taste great together.) Their songs as well - anywhere from lamenting and heartbreaking, to hope-filled and comforting.
When I saw them again, I was struck by their passion. I see a lot of live music. I see a lot of passionate musicians. But every song felt like a prayer, like a cry to a Heavenly Father. Like a conviction of the soul (theirs and mine.) It was deep. Way more than just a performance.
Recently, I attended their CD release party and was struck by their showmanship. They certainly do not disappoint live. In fact you'd better not wear socks to their show because they'll just rock them right off. Not only are Elk (Kirsten) & Boar (Travis) born to write songs, they are born to perform.
Big things are in store for these two. They hit SxSW this year, will be the featured band on One Band One Brand next week, and I have no doubt that from here, the world is their oyster.
I highly recommend giving them a listen. I especially love Canyons because it's a song that speaks frankly and deeply, and is sublimely written and performed. They also made a music video with the lovely and talented Dee Jones to the sweet and honest tune of Room To Start.
Life isn't easy, that's for sure. Elk & Boar's music remind us of that. But it also reminds us that their is much beauty to behold in this terrible, chaotic mess, and that's what keeps us going.
The theme of this year's Fair is "All in the Details!" There will be vintage-inspired vendors showcasing their hair accessories, jewelry, dresses, flowers, paper goods, hair and make-up artists, favors, sweet treats and more. All to help you complete your wonderful Vintage-style Wedding!

If you live in the Tacoma, WA area, you are in luck! There are a ton of great craft events going on this weekend. Most notably, are the two I'm participating in (yay!)
The Artisan Sale is Saturday only, but lasts from 10 AM to 4 PM (so you can definitely make it to both events!) I'll be at the Tacoma Is For Lovers Holiday Craft Sale on Sundayonly, but you should plan to come BOTH days because there will be different artists each day! You wouldn't believe some of the talent these events will be featuring...
I have OODLES of new hair pieces that I'm really proud of. Here's a sneak peek of what I'll be selling (lots of rich colors, vintage details, Czech glass beads... think "Glamorous Woodland Winter.")
But it's only a sneak peek! You'll have to come out to see what else I've made! There's quite a bit more variety this time around (just MORE in general.) I also made a few Christmas ornaments. Little lacy bits to trim the tree made from vintage Chantilly lace and little glittery decoupage baskets -not too "Christmas-y" so they would be perfect for any occasion to give!
If you can't make it to either event this weekend, you can hop on up to Seattle for the very fancy Queen Anne Artist Trunk Show at the Queen Anne Community Center on Saturday the 20th! I'll be there selling more goodies, along with some other amazingly talented artists!
I feel so honored to be part of each of these incredible events. Please take part in supporting small businesses, local artists and your planet - BUY HANDMADE this holiday season!
